The evil eye amulet can be found in many cultures across the world, with the earliest examples dating back to approximately 5,000 years ago. Today, it remains especially prevalent in the mediterranean and middle eastern regions. The amulet, which itself is often referred to as "the evil eye", is actually a protection charm worn with the intention of deflecting any negative energy and ill will sent towards the wearer. This negative energy, oftentimes stemming from the jealousy and envy of those we may or may not be aware of, is the true evil eye. Wearing an evil eye amulet (called a "Mati'' in Greece) can help to protect against the bad luck caused by the evil eye. Due to the protective nature of these pieces, they do require specific care to keep them working as they should. Please refer to the Care Instructions section for more information.
How can I cleanse and care for my protective jewelry?
Due to the protective nature of these pieces, they tend to require spiritual as well as physical care in order to keep them working as they should. (The physical care instructions are located in the second half of this info section). There are several ways to cleanse your jewelry of any negative energy that it has absorbed and protected you from:
-Leave it in the moonlight of a full or waning moon. A windowsill is fine for this if it receives a decent amount of moonlight throughout the night, as I don't recommend leaving your jewelry outside and exposed to moisture.
-Smoke cleanse using incense or cleansing herbs such as rosemary, cedar, or good old garden sage. I do not endorse using white sage if you are not Indigenous, especially when there are so many great alternatives!
-Rice is similar to salt in the way that it absorbs negative energy. I would not recommend using salt because it can be corrosive to metals, but leaving your jewelry in a bowl of any kind of rice overnight, or when not in use, is a great option. Just dispose of and refresh with new rice on a somewhat regular basis to keep the energy fresh.
-Selenite is an excellent crystal for cleansing negative energy from just about anything. I personally keep my protective jewelry in carved selenite bowls when I'm not wearing it, but you can also place your jewelry on top of a piece of selenite for the same effect.
The frequency with which you cleanse your jewelry is entirely up to you and your intuition. If you feel that you encounter negative energy on a more regular basis, take that into account. Interacting with lots of people daily, being in the public eye, or even living with toxic family members are just a few examples. Cleansing protective jewelry is so important because on occasion, if your piece accumulates too much negative energy, it can break under pressure. This can also happen if it has just protected you from an exceptionally large hit of negative energy, in which case, breakage is unfortunately unavoidable. While it's always a bummer, just remember that it's better for your jewelry to take the hit than it is for you! *I do offer repair services for this reason, please locate more information on this on the FAQs page.*
How can I best care for my beaded jewelry?
-Allow all lotions, hair products, and perfumes to fully dry before putting on your jewelry.
-Remove jewelry before swimming or bathing, and generally avoid submerging it in water. If this does occur, gently pat it dry with a soft cloth, and hang or lay flat allowing it to dry completely.
-Please avoid exercising or engaging in strenuous activity while wearing your jewelry, especially any that may result in snagging or tearing.
-Over time, you may notice some colors of beads have changed. This typically only happens to beads with metallic finishes, for example gold beads may appear rusted or oxidized. This is a completely normal part of regular wear and is beautiful in its own way, but you can help to slow this process by keeping your jewelry in a dry, airtight container away from direct sunlight, as well as following my previous recommendations. Please note that changing of bead color does not qualify as defective product, and will not be subject to reimbursement or replacement.
What should I expect for shipping?
I am a one-woman show here at 12th House Moon, so please allow me 1-5 days to process your order. Your patience is greatly appreciated and I always do everything I can to get your order shipped in a timely manner :) Domestic orders typically arrive within one to two weeks of shipment. International orders are trickier to predict, but will generally arrive within the month. Please remember that I have no control over a package once it is in the postal system, and shipping delays due to the carrier are completely out of my hands. However, I will of course provide you with a tracking number and do what is within my power to alleviate any shipping stress.
What happens if my package is lost in transit or stolen?
Ugh, that is simply the worst. Unfortunately, as packages are out of my hands once in the possession of the carrier, I am not able to offer refunds or replacements for missing items at this time. Please make sure you are providing a secure, carrier-verified address at checkout.
What happens if my jewelry gets damaged in shipping?
Oh no! If your piece arrives damaged, please contact me within 48 hours of delivery and we can work out a replacement or repair plan. I have never had a piece get damaged in transit and I take great care while packaging your orders, but there’s a first time for everything!
I am unable to issue refunds or accept returns at this time, so please read all product descriptions and view all photos carefully before purchasing. If I've made a mistake in your order, please send me an email and I will do everything I can to make it right.
